For distilling essential oils with a 10.5 litre water/steam boiler for multiple distillation runs

The DESTILLIERMEISTER E10-12 Suprem is the first model in the new series. With its 12 litre plant volume, it is designed for larger quantities of plant material. The height of 40 cm and diameter of 20 cm create a good chimney effect during distillation. The chimney effect promotes the entrainment of essential oils.

For most plants and flowers, the water supply is sufficient for about 2 distillations, assuming 3 litres of distillate are extracted per distillation. The use of a large boiler for hydrolate extraction is also completely legal in Germany. However, you must register a boiler larger than 2 litres with customs, after which you may use it without restriction as long as no alcohol is processed – even for private use.

With the appropriate licence – if you are working commercially, for example – this system is also ideal for alcohol distillation. In these cases, the plant tube serves either as a column for mash distillation or as a container for fruits or herbs during alcohol vapour distillation.

With 12 litres of plant space, you have plenty of volume to process larger quantities of plants or drugs. Since the steam is generated in a separate boiler under the plant container, there is no contact with boiling water. However, you should only fill the boiler with a maximum of 8 litres so that the steam can develop in the boiler and no hot water is drawn up when boiling is delayed.

A minimum of 3 kW should be available as a heat source, either induction or gas.

Easy to use:

• In this model, optimised tension locks mean that no seals are required between the first and second chambers. The seals are made of metal. A seal is required for the plant tube.
• Fill the water/steam boiler with a maximum of 8 litres of water, either demineralised or distilled water, or tap water if the limescale is removed from the bottom of the boiler with heated lemon or acetic acid after a few distillations.
• Place the plant tube 2. on top with the lid 2.1 and close with the clamps.
• Insert the aroma basket 8. into the plant tube and open it. Now fill the plant tube and press down lightly.
• Place the lid 3 with the 3/4" screw connection on top and close with the clamps.
• Screw the riser pipe of the distillation bridge 4 onto the lid and tighten – the connection is metal-tight.
• Support the bridge with the supplied stand tube 6 and the cross sleeve 7 attached to the cooler (see below). The stand tube is long enough to provide support even when using a higher heat source.
• Connect the cooling water hoses. If you do not have suitable hoses, you can purchase them separately here. If you want to remain independent of mains water, you can purchase a suitable pump set here.
• The water inlet starts at 4.5 on the cooler. A 1/2‘ hose screw connection is required here. The cooling water then flows upwards between the pipe core and the pipe jacket in the opposite direction to the distillate and exits at 4.6. A 1/2’ hose screw connection is also required here.
• Switch on the heat source and collect the hydrolate at 4.7.
• When the plant tube is full, 3 litres is sufficient for most plants and takes about 30 minutes at 3000 watts.

The water/steam container and plant/drug tube, as well as all distillate-carrying pipes, are made of high-quality stainless steel.

This unit itself differs from the previous version in the following improvements:

• The boiler and the plant tube are not rigidly connected but can be separated by means of a 3/4 ‘-V4A screw connection.
• The plug-in socket for the distilling bridge, plugged tightly, is made of high-quality V4A stainless steel (instead of red brass in the standard version).
• The plant basket is height-adjustable, so that smaller quantities can also be distilled.

With 4 litres of plant space, you have plenty of volume to process larger quantities of plants or drugs. The steam is generated in a separate boiler under the plant container, so that contact with boiling water can be ruled out.

Easy to use:

• In the new model, no seals are required between 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 due to optimised clamping locks. Sealing works metallically. Therefore, there are no follow-up costs for this model.
• Fill the water/steam boiler with at least 2 litres and no more than 8.5 litres of ideally demineralised or distilled water.
• Insert the 4-litre plant tube and close the boiler with the clamping locks 1.1.
• Insert the aroma basket into the plant tube and open it.
• Fill to the brim with herbs or drugs - do not compress. There are about 4.2 litres.
• Put on the lid 3. and tighten the fasteners 2.4,
• insert the distillation bridge 5 into the socket 4.1,
• screw the cooling water hoses to the cooler.
• Switch on the heat source and collect the hydrosol with oil at 5.6.
• Distil for about 8 minutes at higher power (induction plate 3000 watts). There should be 500 ml of distillate.

The water/vapour vessel and the plant/drug tube, as well as all distillate-carrying pipes and connections, are made of stainless steel.

Stainless steel burning protection 
The safest protection against burning of mash, when distilling, is a water bath still. But with directly heated boilers you must have devices that prevent burning with high security. The first step is to keep the thick components of a mash away from the heated bottom. This is achieved primarily by a mash strainer. But a mash strainer alone is not a 100% burning protection. If the liquid component of a mash still contains starch, the liquid can also burn. To find that out, you should either do an iodine starch test, or cheaper, put a small amount of the liquid mash in a small pot and do a burning test on the stove. If the small amount burns, precautions must be taken.
If you know that you do not use 100% ripe fruit, burn is likely. In this case, it is advisable to use an amylase, which converts residual starch into sugar. This not only reduces the danger of burning, but also increases the yield.
Nevertheless, you should perform the above-mentioned burning test after fermentation. If the sample still tended to burn despite using an amylase, in addition to the mash sieve for instance a mash bag, as we offer it here in different sizes. This can not only keep solid components off the ground, but also filter out residual yeast. The combination of amylase, mash screen and filter bag or filter cloth should prevent burning.

Aroma basket
Is not it just protection against burning, but that either, in Germany only for commercial applications, alcohol vapor flows through fruits or herbs to obtain an aromatized distillate, or steam distillations to produce hydrosol and essential oils to be carried out, which is also in Germany is allowed, one uses a height-adjustable aroma sieve. This is placed in a still above the neutral alcohol or water and filled with fruits, flowers or herbs and will be distilled.

Legal 2 litre hobby still made of stainless steel with still helmet for essential oils - no registration required

A hobby still made of stainless steel that does not require registration. With this beautiful still you can produce hydrosols, essential oils and distilled water.

Except for induction, any fireplace can be used. Maybe to heat, simply place the still on a stove or gas cooker.

In Austria or Switzerland, you may also legally use this still as a classic pot still with a helmet to produce a noble brandy. Or you can fill the aroma basket that extends into the helmet with fruits or herbs to produce a delicious spirit.

Easy to use and innovative:

• The new model no longer requires a seal between 1. and 2. due to the optimised clamp. Sealing is done metallically. This means that there are no follow-up costs for this model.
• The new Hobby-EH2 model has a stainless steel socket instead of the red bronze socket.
• Fill approx. 1.2 litres of distilled water into the boiler,
• fill the half-closed and raised flavour basket 5 with fresh herbs or blossoms, or with drugs, and place it in the boiler. The plant filling should reach up to the top of the helmet if possible.
• Put on helmet 2 with distilling module 3 and tighten clamping fasteners 2.2 by hooking the clamping hooks under the stainless steel cable.
• Screw the water hoses onto the cooler, connect one end (3.5) to a submersible pump (e.g. aquarium pump) and direct the other end (3.6) into a cooling water storage tank. This is also available as an optional accessory. Alternatively, you can connect the whole thing to a domestic water connection.
• Switch on the heat source and collect the hydrosol and oil at 3.7,
• distilling at a medium heat for a maximum of 16 minutes. After 8 minutes, the receiver should be changed for the first time, the amount of oil assessed and the pH value determined.

The distillation pot and all pipes carrying distillate are made of stainless steel.

The distilling pot and all distillate pipelines are made of stainless steel. The socket for the distillation bridge is made of gunmetal.
The DILLILLIERMEISTER Hobby-E2 is easy to handle. It is ready to use in a few simple steps. For heating, place the distillery on an induction plate. For cooling you need a pot, bucket or bowl of cold water - 10 liters should be enough. With a simple, low-power pump (such as aquarium pump), you can direct water from the reservoir to port 4.4. The hot water leaves the cooling above 4.5. They redirect it back to their water container. Since the cooler is amply sized for its task, a small water flow is sufficient for the cooling.
