DESTILLIERMEISTER E10-4 Suprem Plus
For distilling essential oils with a 10.5 litre water/steam boiler for multiple distillation runs
The DISTILLING MASTER E10-4 Suprem Plus is the big brother of the E2-4 Suprem Plus with a water/steam boiler of over 10 litres. Since the water supply is usually sufficient for several distillations, the plant tube can be screwed onto the water boiler so that it can be removed separately to be filled with new plants or drugs.
For most plants and flowers, the water supply is sufficient for 6 to 7 distillations, with the removal of 1 litre of distillate per distillation. However, if the removal of one litre of hydrosol per distillation is not sufficient, which we have found, for example, when distilling fennel seeds, the water supply is sufficient for at least 2 distillations. This saves a considerable amount of time compared to the 2-litre steam boiler. Using a large boiler to extract hydrosols is perfectly legal in Germany. However, you must report a boiler over 2 litres to customs, but you may then use it without restriction as long as no alcohol is processed – even for private use.
With the appropriate permit – for example, if you work commercially – this system is also ideal for alcohol distillation. In these cases, the plant tube can be used either as a column for distilling spirits or as a container for fruits or herbs for alcohol vapour distillation.
With 4 litres of plant space, you have plenty of volume to process larger quantities of plants or drugs. However, by raising the aroma basket, you can also experiment with smaller quantities, but you should then work with a reduced heating output so that the vapour does not simply flow through the plants without any effect. Since the steam is generated in a separate boiler under the plant container, contact with boiling water is impossible. However, you should only fill the boiler with a maximum of 8 litres so that the steam can develop in the boiler and no hot water is drawn up in the event of boiling delay.
The condenser of this system is generously equipped with 1 m of cooling length, so that standard induction plates of 3 to 3.5 kW can also be used. However, full power should only be set if the entire plant pipe is filled. We have experimentally determined with this system that 3 kW is optimal because it meets an essential requirement of a study by the Bavarian State Institute of Agriculture. This specifies an amount of steam of 3 to 4 kg of water vapour per minute and m² as the optimum steam mass flow density. With the present system and a 3 kW induction plate, we achieve a value of approx. 3.15 kg per minute and m².
Easy to use:
-
In the new model, no seals are required between 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 due to optimised clamping locks. The sealing works metallically. Therefore, there are no follow-up costs for this model.
-
Fill the water/steam boiler with a maximum of 8 litres of water, either demineralised or distilled water, or tap water if the limescale is removed from the bottom of the boiler after a few distillations with heated citric or acetic acid.
-
Put on the lid with the 3/4’ screw connection and close it with the clamping locks.
-
Insert the aroma basket into the plant tube and open it. Now fill the plant tube, press it on lightly and connect it hand-tight with the screw connection.
-
Put on the small lid and close it with the clamping fasteners.
-
Insert the riser tube of the distilling bridge 5. into the stainless steel bushing on the lid - the connection is automatically sealed.
-
Connect the cooling water hoses. If you don't have the appropriate hoses yet, you can purchase them optionally here. If you want to remain independent of tap water, you can purchase a suitable pump set here.
-
The water supply starts at the condenser at 5.4. Here you need a 1/2’ hose screw connection on the hose. The cooling water then flows upwards between the pipe core and the pipe sheath in the opposite direction to the distillate and exits at 5.5. Here, too, you need a 1/2’ hose screw connection.
-
Switch on the heat source and collect the hydrosol at 5.6.
-
When the plant tube is full, it takes about 16 to 20 minutes at 3000 watts to extract 1 litre for most plants. It is best to first take 2 portions of 500 ml each in sterile containers. If the pH of the distillate is below 5, more can be taken. The oil – if the plant contains a sufficient amount of oil, it will be found almost exclusively in the first fraction.
-
If the plant quantities are low and the aroma basket is raised, the power should be reduced to 1500–2000 watts.
The water/steam tank and plant/drug tube, as well as all distillate-carrying pipes, are made of high-quality stainless steel.
